Qawwali Program in Bangladesh Spoiled by Govt. Student Wing Chhatra League

The Qawwali concert at TSC of Dhaka University campus in Bangladesh has been foiled by the allegedly attack of ruling party Awami Legue's Student organization Chhatra League. It has been alleged that the BCL attacked the song festival organized on Wednesday evening at the pre-determined time.

Several people including journalists and students were injured in the incident. They are being given first aid at various medical centers in the vicinity.

According to the organizing committee, Saddam Hussain, the general secretary of the Dhaka University of BCL, phoned Tayyab, the owner of the sound system, and forbade him to provide his equipment before the event.

Later, before the sound systems were rent from another place, the leaders and activists of different halls of Dhaka University came to the spot and started carrying out surprise attacks and vandalism.

At least 15 people were seriously injured, including Tasfia Tasnim Raya, a second-year student in the university's Economics department, Jalal Ahmed, a student in the Film and Media and Photographic department and a journalist of the Daily Campus, according to the report. Among them, Raya's head was torn off.

Students marched on the office of Proctor Professor AKM Golam Rabbani in protest of the attack. He spoke to the students in front of the office. "I heard you," said Proctor. Action will be taken against the accused subject to proof of necessary information from Dhaka University.

The Qawwali song festival was being organized by the university students' Qawwali band 'Silsila' and general students. Lutfar Rahman and Khalid Hasan Abid Qawwali of 'Silsila' band were to perform in it. Sheikh Fahim Faisal, a Murshidi-Bhandari musician, was also scheduled to perform.
