Bangladesh Mathematical Society's New Committee

A new committee of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society has been announced for the next 2022-23 session. Professor D. M. Shahidul Islam, chairman, department of Mathematics, University of Dhaka has been elected as the president and Professor Mohammad Babul Hasan has been elected as the secretary.

The results of the election were announced at around 1 PM on Friday after the voting. Ganesh Chandra Roy, a retired professor of Mathematics, University of Chittagong, served as the Election Commissioner. 

Khulna University Professor D. Md. Haider Ali Biswas, Jahangirnagar University Professor. Md. Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Wills Little Flower High School's Assistant Headmaster Rafiqul Islam were elected as the Vice-president of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society. 

Department of Secondary and Higher Education Raihana Taslim joint-Secretary, Dhaka University retired professor Amulya Chandra Mandal Treasurer of the society, Mohammad Humayun Kabir from Jahangirnagar University has been elected as the assistant secretary of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Md. Monirul Alam Sarkar, Dhaka University Professor. M. Shawkat Ali and Qutb Uddin, North South University's M. Shahadat Hossain, BUET Professor M. Abdul Alim, Uttara University Professor D. Nurul Alam Khan, Jagannath University's Vishnu Pad Ghosh, Rajshahi University Professor M. Ali Akbar, Jahangirnagar University Professor Abeda Sultana, Department of Secondary and Higher Education. Prabir Kumar Bhattacharya and Rajshahi University's Professor Kalyan Kumar Dey are elected as the general member of the Mathematical Society.

According to result of the election the President Professor D. M. Shahidul Islam was elected with a maximum of 365 votes. His closest rival Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor D. M. Ashraf Uddin got 265 votes. Professor D. Mohammad Babul Hasan won the post of secretary. He got 360 votes. His closest rival Jagannath University Professor D. M. Rezaul Karim got 261 votes.

It is to be noted that Bangladesh Mathematical Society is the only organization of mathematicians in the whole country, Bangladesh. The main objective of this organization is to promote Mathematics in education, to popularize Mathematics and to overcome the fear of Mathematics.
