10 Traditional Biryani House of Dhaka | Renown Food in Dhaka

Old Dhaka without Biryani (traditional food item in Dhaka) is like a crown without diamonds. Just as there are biryani shops over 80 years old in the alleys of old Dhaka, there are also brand new ones, which may be less than a year old. There are 10 old Biryani shops in Dhaka.


Haji Biryani

Haji Biryani is at the top of the list of the oldest biryani shops in Dhaka. Haji Mohammad Hossain established Haji Biryani in 1939. His grandchildren are now running the business for generations. Haji Biryani is served on a plate made of jackfruit leaves. Shop No. 70 on Kazi Alauddin Road in Nazira Bazar is open from 11pm to 12pm. The price of biryani per plate is 200 BDT (Bangladeshi Taka).


Manik Chan

Manik Chan has been running a biryani business at Digubabu Lane on Mitford Road in Old Dhaka for 45 years. He claims that his father, Mia Chan, started the biryani business around 1948. The main attraction here is that apart from biryani, there are many types of food available here. There are different meals in the shop six days a week. Closed on Fridays. The price of food here is affordable. The shop sells biryani every day from Fajr prayers till 8 am.


Makhan biryani

Makhan Biryani was started in 1950 by Abdul Quader Mia. Then Haji Makhan, son of Abdul Quader Miah took the helm of the business. Now his children are running the business. The shop is open from 9 am to 4 pm at Nasir Uddin Sardar Lane in Raisaheb Bazar. The price of half plate biryani is 110 taka and full plate is 250 BDT.


Buddu Biryani

The journey of Buddu Biryani started in 1959. Its founder is Karim Baksh. His son Elahi Baksh Buddu Mia later took over the business. Zahid, the son of Buddu Mia, is now the owner of Buddu Biryani. The sale started at 9 am at the shop No. 56, Haricharan Roy Road, Faridabad. It ends at 12 o'clock at night. Buddur khasir raw biryani cooked with basmati rice is very popular. The price of half plate of biryani here is 150 taka and the price of full plate is 250 Taka. Chicken polao is also found in Buddu Biryani.


Shah Sahib's Biryani

Right in front of the Shahi Jame Mosque in Dhaka's Chawkbazar, go straight through the alley of the Merchant Association No. 6, Shah Sahib's Biryani on the left hand side. It is known that the food shop was established around 1960.


Shah Sahib's Biryani is available only in the morning. The biryani ends at nine in the morning. Half plate biryani costs 80 taka and full plate biryani 160 taka. In addition to biryani, chicken polao is also available here every Monday and Thursday. They are characterized by the use of very small amounts of spices. On Fridays and other public holidays, Shah Sahib's biryani shop is closed.


Haji Nanna Biryani

Haji Nanna Biryani Khasir Kachchi is very popular among the food lovers. Apart from this, rooster polao is also available here. Haji Nanna Mia, a chef from Old Dhaka, started this business in 1962. Family members carry on the business tradition. Half plate khasir biryani costs 170 taka, full plate 340 taka. Khasir biryani one bowl 680 taka. Rooster polao half plate 160 taka. Whole chicken biryani is sold here on the 5th of every month. The price per bowl is 370 taka. Shop No. 41 at Becharam Deuri is open daily from 11 A.M. to 11 P.M.


Fakhruddin Biryani

Fakhruddin Biryani is one of the oldest biryani shops in Dhaka. Fakhruddin Biryani has branches in Bailey Road, Gulshan, Motijheel and Dhanmondi in Dhaka. Contacting Fakhruddin Biryani's Ramna Shopping Complex, it is learned that it was established in 1966. Now it is being run by the third generation in the lineage. Its biryani is quite popular in Dhaka.


Jhunu Biryani

Jhunu Biryani is cooked with local chicken. It was founded in 1970 by Nur Mohammad. He named the shop after his daughter Jhunur. Trading takes place here every day from 12 noon to 11 pm. Half plate biryani will be available here at 175 taka, full plate at 360 taka. It contains a piece of meat, an egg, roasted chicken-liver-head. Location of Jhunu Polao House No. 11 on Narinda Road.


Hanif Biryani

Hanif Biryani is another famous biryani shop in old Dhaka which is opposite to Haji Biryani. It started its journey in 1975. Haji Mohammad Hanif, a resident of Old Dhaka, is its founder. After his death in 2005, his son Haji Mohammad Ibrahim Rony took over the business. Hanif Biryani has several branches in Dhaka. The main attraction here is Khasir Biryani. Crowds of biryani lovers can be seen at the shop No. 30 on Kazi Alauddin Road in Nazira Bazar every day from 10 am to 12 midnight.


Karim Biryani

Karim Biryani was established in the 1980's. It is located at 36/1 Prasanna Poddar Lane, Nayabazar, Old Dhaka. Rashed Ahmed has been running it for 24 years. At present, Karim Biryani is not as glamorous as before. With the passage of time, it has lagged behind. Rashed Ahmed, the owner of Karim Biryani, also expressed some regret.


Apart from this, Royal Biryani from Nilkhet, Mukta Biryani from Khilgaon, Rashi Biryani from Malitola, Mamun Biryani from Nazira Bazar and Kashmir Biryani House from Islampur are some of the old biryani shops in Dhaka.
